Diverse possible uses for our jumping saddle pads & dressage saddle pads.
The saddle pad is an essential part of your riding equipment. But how do you find the right saddle pad?
First of all, you should choose a saddle pad that suits your saddle and the discipline you ride in. The saddle pad has a special shape for each discipline, so it is usually squarer and larger for dressage and a little shorter for show jumping. In addition, saddle pads are becoming increasingly more functional, they offer breathability, transport moisture away from the horse's back, ensure sufficient ventilation under the saddle and thus guarantee maximum comfort for your horse even during hard training or on warm days.

What types of saddle pads are there?
Saddle pads are available in a variety of colors, quilting patterns and fabrics. It is important to look for materials that are particularly absorbent and breathable. Cotton, lambskin or felt are suitable for this. The quilting pattern can affect the comfort of the horse and rider. Saddle pads with foam padding are used to correct minor inequalities.
What saddle pad sizes are available?
The correct saddle pad size depends not only on the size of the horse, but above all on the size of the saddle. This is because the saddle must not be pressed against the edges and seams of the saddle pad, which can lead to pressure and chafing. To determine the correct saddle pad length, measure the length of the saddle contact surface. To do this, place the measuring tape from the front edge of the saddle pad to the back edge. Add 6 cm to the result, which gives the minimum length of the saddle pad. To determine the correct size, you can use the size chart in our online shop.
Depending on the manufacturer, the saddle pad sizes can have different names. The Torpol saddle pads are named Full, Cob and Pony.
In addition to the length of the saddle pad, the shape of the saddle pad is also crucial for the correct fit. Due to the advanced saddle flap, there is no dressage saddle pad suitable for jumping saddles, only a jumping saddle pad focused on jumping. There are also dressage saddle pads, all-purpose saddle pads that focus on dressage and ponies.
Our range includes saddle pads from Torpol in a wide variety of colors and designs. The standard range is refreshed seasonally with different collections. Breathable and moisture-wicking materials increase comfort for the horse. Different quilting gives the saddle pad a sporty, elegant or playful look.
What is the correct fit of a saddle pad?
The correct fit of the Torpol saddle pad can only be assessed in conjunction with the saddle. The saddle must not protrude beyond the edge of the saddle pad to avoid pressure on the cords and seams. At the same time, the saddle pad should not be too large or too thick, otherwise it will distort the fit of the saddle.
The following points should be checked to assess the fit of the Torpol saddle pad:
- Saddle shape and saddle pad fit together (back length, length of saddle flaps)
- The saddle pad is chambered
- The saddle pad is placed centrally under the saddle
- The saddle pad slips during non
- The saddle pad does not crease before or after girthing
